When we purchased the building, we found out that estimates showed it would cost $ 30,000 to renovate the building to make it feesible to use as a Musuem. Plus we still owed $ 50,000 on the building, so what we dicided was to see what we could get in donated supplies and donations to just start the process of renovation.
So, we placed an article in the Wilson County News and asked for volunteers and supplies. We made a list of specfic supplies for the main work. People started to call and contact us with 2x4's, paint, bags of cement. What ever project we were working on God supplied the need. We are now at the piont of instalating the walls and ceiling. Then sheetrocking the Polley room and the Conference Room. The rest of the inside walls will be covered with a strong plywood or exterior siding. It will look old, but be strong enough to hold artifacts and large picture frames on the walls.
As you will notice, we started this process in January of 2010. We were thinking we could finish this process in a short matter of a few months, well it's almost August. But supplies are still coming in, now instulation is still needed. We do expect some 2x8's to be delivered for a porch that will be the whole length of the building. We are also collecting old tin, but with no holes in it, that will be used for the porch covering. We still need donations for the inside walls ( a lot of sheetrock) Thanks to everyone that has helped us get this far.......hoping the GRAND OPEINING will not be too far in the future.
It took 13 months to finish all the interior renovation. We finished Feb 2011.
We did have our RE-GRAND OPENING on May 7th, 2011. We celebrated the much work.
